SCHRIEVER, La. - Two teenagers are accused in the severe beating of a Schriever man whose stepson wouldn't give his school bus seat to one of the suspects, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.

Charles Van Norman, 17, 103 Eva St., Houma, was charged with second-degree battery, and Mark Cheatham Jr., 18, 105 Gros St., Schriever, was charged with principal to second-degree battery.

The victim told police a group of males went to his home Tuesday afternoon to fight his 16-year-old stepson. Larpenter said Cheatham ordered the fight after the boy refused to give him his school bus seat that day. When the stepfather didn't allow the fight, Van Norman beat him.

The victim sustained a broken jaw, multiple facial stitches and had two seizures because of the attack, Larpenter said.

Each suspect was booked into the Terrebonne Parish jail Wednesday afternoon on a $50,000 bond.
