GIBSON, La. — A Louisiana State Trooper from Troop C and three good Samaritans are being credited for rescuing a driver from a burning vehicle following a crash on Louisiana Highway 182 (Bayou Black Drive) in Gibson, La., on Monday.
According to the state police, Trooper First Class Mark Charpentier was arrived upon a crash near Red Robin Court while en route to another incident.
One of the vehicles involved was overturned and on fire with the driver still trapped inside. A trio of Good Samaritans, who had stopped to assist, joined Charpentier in the rescue.
Samuel Nelson, Brad Falgout and Michael Safley helped the trooper break the windows and pull the motorist to safety through the broken windshield after successfully attempting to suppress the growing flames.
The rescued driver was transported to a hospital where they are being treated for severe injuries.
State police said the crash scene was shrouded in dense fog and nearby wildfire smoke.
