HOUMA, La. — A fatal crash crash involving two vehicles on Louisiana Highway 311 claimed the life of a motorcyclist early Wednesday evening.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Troop C began investigating the incident shortly before 5 p.m.

Police said a preliminary investigation shows Houma-native Roy Miller, Jr., was driving his 2024 BMW X6 east on Sugar Highland Boulevard toward LA Hwy 311 when the motorcyclist was riding south on the highway at the same time.

For reasons still under investigation, the BMW failed to yield to the approaching motorcycle and entered LA Hwy 311. As a result, the rider of the 2021 Yamaha collided with Miller's BMW.

Police identified the motorcyclist as 29-year-old Garret Ellisor of Canyon Lake, Texas.

Ellisor, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene.

Miller was properly restrained and uninjured.

Police said Miller showed no signs of impairment and voluntarily provided a breath sample that indicated no alcohol was detected. Standard toxicology samples were collected from Ellisor and submitted for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
