NEW ORLEANS — A man has been charged with murder in the death of Deputy Sergeant Nicholas Pepper of Lafourche Parish from last weekend, according to a press release.
33-year-old Anthony H. Savoie of Bourg is being charged with first-degree murder of a police officer, attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated flight from an officer, and warrant for failure to appear in court.
Savoie was stopped by Houma police for a traffic violation on April 2 but fled in his vehicle at a high rate of speed. He stopped and briefly negotiated with the officers before speeding off again and ramming into Pepper's and another deputy's vehicle.
The press release said that criminal proceedings will be handled by the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney's Office.
