HOUMA, La. — A 6-week-old baby is fighting for its life after it was beaten badly Houma Police said Thursday morning.
According to the police, officers were called to a Houma-area hospital on a report of suspected child abuse involving the baby.
Police said the baby was suffering from trauma to the head and ribs and had to be flown from the hospital to a specialty medical center. The child is listed as being in critical condition.
Police said an investigation showed the parents – an unidentified 16-year-old male and 18-year-old Jemi Kenny – were responsible for the life-threatening injuries at some point in the past 10 days. Both suspects were taken into custody and charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Police said the long-term prognosis of the child is uncertain.
