Krewe of Little Rascals cancels 2024 parade

The Metairie Mardi Gras parade canceled its season after death of co-founder, Jack Spittler Sr.

METAIRIE, La. — The all-children's float parade, Krewe of Little Rascals has canceled its parade for the 2024 Mardi Gras season, after its co-founder, Jack Spittler Sr., died in Texas.

According to our partners at Nola.com, Spittler's wife and co-captain Maureen Spittler and Jefferson Parish officials announced on Friday that the parade will not roll during the upcoming Carnival.

The co-founder, died on last Saturday, Oct. 7, in Friendswood Texas. He was 86 years old.

During his decade in New Orleans, Spittler and his family created the Krewe of Little Rascals. The parade is all about the kids, and marked its 40th anniversary in 2023's Carnival season.

Last year, over 200 children were riders across 17 floats and had paraded 38 times.

"We love your kids," said Maureen Spittler during an interview with Nola.com

The krewe plans to return for next parade season in 2025.
