KENNER, La. — A 15-year-old from out of state has been identified as a suspect in a bomb threat at a Kenner school that was serving as a polling place Tuesday morning, police said Tuesday evening.
The threat caused the Secretary of State's office and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office to relocate the location.
An arrest warrant has been issued on counts of False Communication with Intent to Cause an Emergency Response and Communicating of False Information of a Planned Arson.
It happened about 10:00 a.m. on Election Day at the polls at Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy. Jefferson Parish officials urge voters to cast their ballot at Audubon Elementary located at 200 West Loyola Drive in Kenner.
Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court John Gegenheimer says that all the voting booths that were at Kenner Discovery have been moved to Audubon Elementary so there be no interruption in the voting process.
The Secretary of State's Office said that early indications are that the threat was not related to voting.
“I am exceedingly grateful to Kenner Chief of Police Keith Conley and Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto for their prompt response and thorough investigation, which appears to show that this was never targeted toward voters or election workers. I also applaud our department’s elections staff and Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court Jon Gegenheimer for this quick response to move the location and inform voters of the emergency move,” Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin said.
