Celebration of life for 10th grader killed in shooting in New Orleans

His loved ones gathered to both mourn and celebrate the young jokester’s life, two weeks after he was shot and killed near West Lake Forest Neighborhood.

NEW ORLEANS — Growing up, Jvoine Elow’s family said he had big dreams of being a comedian.

“He would make people laugh a lot,” Elow’s relative said. “That’s all he did when he was coming up, and I bet it’s worse now.”

At fifteen years old, Elow made his family laugh for the last time.

“It was beautiful the way his grandmother took care of him. He wanted to be a comedian,” She said.

On Saturday, his loved ones gathered to both mourn and celebrate the young jokester’s life, two weeks after he was shot and killed near the West Lake Forest Neighborhood in New Orleans East.

According to the tenth grader’s teachers at Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School, there was more to Elow than just his sense of humor.

The day after his murder, his self-proclaimed school mom Kaenisha Martin told WWL Louisiana he had been working on his grades and couldn’t wait to see his report card.

“My heart is broken,” Kaenisha Martin said. “He was more than just a student. This was my baby.”

Even though Elow will never make his family laugh again, the joy he brought them will live forever.”
