NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans drug dealer is sentenced to 30 years in prison for his part in the 2020 shootout with three robbers inside the Jung Hotel.
Louisiana Department of Justice announces that on Tuesday, a federal judge sentenced Clarence Santiago to 30 years in prison on a four-count indictment which includes possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, and discharging a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
On December 28, 2020, three armed men went to the popular Jung Hotel on the corner of Canal Street and Lasalle Street to rob Santiago of his drug stash according to police.
Police say Santiago is a known drug trafficker. A shootout broke out in the hotel hallway between the four men.
When police arrived at Jung Hotel after reports of the shooting, they found a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. That victim was one of the gunmen wounded and was taken to the hospital along with a second suspect wounded. The two men were treated and then arrested as suspects in the shooting.
Police confiscated three rifles from the scene. The three men involved in the shooting were arrested and face several gun and drug charges.
