NEW ORLEANS — A man was shot and killed in Harahan on Sunday night, a police spokesperson said.
He was in his car in the driveway of his girlfriend's house in Harahan when someone walked up to his car and shot and killed him, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto told WWLTV reporter Erika Ferrando.
No one else was injured during the shooting, the sheriff said. While investigators know who the victim was, they're not releasing his name until the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office completes its investigation.
The killing happened near Generes Drive and Sauve Road.
Neighbors said they heard about eight gunshots during the Sunday evening killing, but police officers did not confirm that information.
JPSO investigators are speaking to the victim's girlfriend who was home during the shooting. The killing was not a random act, the sheriff said during a press conference late Sunday. Police are trying to find out who killed the man and why.
JPSO first notified local media about the shooting around 9:32 p.m., but the sheriff's office was on the scene as early as 7:45 p.m.
The Harahan Police Department is working alongside JPSO in the homicide investigation.
