Blood drives are being held this weekend on both sides of the lake for Danny Zeigler, the JPSO firefighter who was severely wounded after falling through the roof of a burning building in Old Metairie.
On Friday, Feb. 15, from 11-6 p.m. at the St. Tammany Parish Fire District #4 in Mandeville, community members gathered to donate their blood for the cause.
Another blood drive will be held Sunday, Feb. 17, from 9-5 p.m. at the Tic Toc Café at 3205 36th Street in Metairie.
Blood donors can also visit any donor center and tell the staff that they’re donating for Danny Ziegler. All blood types can help, according to officials.
Zeigler suffered second and third-degree burns to his face, neck and hands while fighting a fire at the DeLimon complex on Rue St. Peters Street on Feb. 3.
Zeigler has been a firefighter in Jefferson Parish for the last five years after serving in Detroit since 1999.
A GoFundMe account has also been created to help pay Zeigler’s medical bills. If you’d like to donate, click here.
