HARVEY, La. — The Louisiana State Police arrested 67-year-old Terrytown native John Semien after he allegedly drove his truck through a stop sign causing a fatal crash that killed a 23-year-old motorcyclist from Harvey, La.
According to Troop B, the incident occurred on the lower level of U.S. Highway 90B near Scotsdale Drive around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Semien is accused of driving while impaired when Michael Barahona's 2008 Ducati motorcycle struck the passenger side of a 2001 GMC after Semien ran the stop sign.
Barahona, who was wearing a helmet, was unable to stop in time.
State police say Semien, who attempted to flee the scene, was apprehended with the help of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office a short distance from the crash.
During the investigation, police say Semien exhibited signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Vehicular Homicide, Hit-and-Run Driving, and Disregarding a Stop Sign.
