METAIRIE, La. — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Metairie Tuesday afternoon.
The victim was identified as 30-year-old Joseph Pecoraro III of River Ridge, according to the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office.
JPSO Captain Jason Rivarde says Pecoraro was walking on the tracks when he was struck by an Amtrak train.
It happened in the Canadian National train yard near the Earhart Expressway around 2:15 p.m.
Pecoraro was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said that Pecoraro was trespassing.
