MARRERO -- A man was shot and killed while allegedly trying to rob someone at gunpoint according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
JPSO spokesman Col. John Fortunato said the alleged shooter, 24-year-old Victor Vega, told police that he was sitting in his truck with Larry Gillard when Gillard attempted to rob him at gunpoint.
According to Fortunato, Vega then pulled out his own gun and fired several shots, killing Gillard.
Fortunato said crime scene technicians recovered a gun was found next to Gillard and another gun was found inside of Vega's car.
The shooting took place outside the Lapalco One Stop Shop on Lapalco Blvd. shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
"We've been here for 10 years. We don't really get any problems from nobody around here," Cashier Firas Ghanem said.
Police are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation, so the information may change as detectives put the pieces together according to Fortunato.
