METAIRIE, La. - An on-duty JPSO detective suffered a broken leg when his unmarked car crashed into a another vehicle that drove into his path late Monday night.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Colonel John Fortunato said that Detective Steve Quaintance was driving west in his car as he neared a crossover in the 6600 block of Airline Drive.

Fortunato said that a vehicle operated by 72-year-old Woodrow Stewart of Metairie turned into the path of Quaintance's vehicle and the two collided.

Quaintance suffered a broken leg and was taken to East Jefferson Hospital for treatment.

A field sobriety test was conducted on Stewart and the sheriff's office said that his blood level was .115.

Stewart, who was not injured, was booked with DWI, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, vehicular negligent injury and not wearing a seatbelt.

Woodrow Stewart is a reserve NOPD officer.  NOPD Internal Affairs came to the First District, took possession of his badge and ID and placed him on emergency suspension.
