3 dead in 'makeshift homeless encampment' in Jefferson Parish

The incident happened near the intersection of Scott St. and Shrewsbury Rd. in Jefferson.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — The coroner has identified the deceased as:

1. Warren Fairley BM 53 yo; last known address in New Orleans;

2. Mindy Robert WF 44 yo; last known address in Metairie;

3. Marcey Vincent WF 33 yo; last known address in Bridge City

Three people living in a "makeshift homeless encampment" in a wooded area of Jefferson Parish were discovered to be shot and killed Wednesday morning, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said.

JPSO later confirmed that the three victims, including two women and one man, were found inside a set of tents suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

"It's an apparent homicide at this point," said Lopinto. "We have three victims deceased from apparent gunshot wounds."

The scene was discovered around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Scott St. and Shrewsbury Rd. in Jefferson.

Lopinto said he assumed the victims were living in the tents in the area.

"These exist in all kinds of different places back there," he said of the tents. "You would never know they existed until you're two feet from it. When I walked back there, you couldn't see it until you were on top of it."

Lopinto said he believes the tents were back there for a while. He said the deaths were likely recent as the bodies were not decomposed badly.

Nearby resident Monique Steib told WWL Louisiana's Eleanor Tabone she felt shocked upon hearing the news.

"We don't have this in our neighborhood," she said. "Very quiet neighborhood."

Steib said she had not seen anyone living in the wooded area surrounding the crime scene.
