Jefferson Parish to operate city routes after Kenner votes to exit New Orleans RTA

Jefferson Parish is set to operate the Kenner Loop but with a few changes.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — Jefferson Parish is set to operate Kenner City's bus routes following a vote by the Kenner City Council to leave the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, according to our partners at Nola.com.

The change is expected to take effect on Sept. 22. Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng told Nola.com it "will result in better service for riders."

This comes after the parish was allowed to drop out from the RTA after an unapproved contract led to the resignation of half of Jefferson Parish's board members in March.

Jefferson Parish is set to operate the Kenner Loop but with a few changes. "That includes adding stops at the hospital on West Esplanade Avenue and the Social Security Administration building on Joe Yenni Boulevard," according to our partners report.

Despite the parish leaving RTA, the bus service will continue to run buses to Jefferson Parish locations, including Elmwood and the Louis Armstrong International Airport.
