JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — Jefferson Parish employees can expect an increase to their minimum wage next year after the parish council voted to raise the minimum wage to $14.03 per hour, according to Nola.com.

On Wednesday the council voted for a "roughly 12% increase", set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

The goal of the wage increase is to attract more people, Councilman Deano Bonano told our partners.

He said the parish deals with 500-600 vacancies "on any given month."

According to our partners, the effort comes from a recommendation made by the Archer Company, a human resources consulting firm that the parish hired in 2022, to determine if raising the hourly minimum wage was feasible.

However, Jefferson Parish is still behind compared to New Orleans which has a $15 minimum wage. And the state has yet to increase the federal minimum wage, which could be as low as $7.25 per hour.
