Jean Lafitte marsh fire continues to burn

The fire started Tuesday morning, and 147 acres have burned.

JEAN LAFITTE, La. — Jean Lafitte Park officials say the Lafitte fire in the Barataria Preserve, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve is at 52% containment.

The fire started Tuesday morning, and 147 acres have burned.

Winds are bringing the smoke across the area and as those winds decrease, that smoke will stay put overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service also forecasts morning fog for the next few days. They are asking residents in the area to, "use extreme caution while driving when thick fog is encountered. People may smell smoke due to the recent fire in the area."
