Gov. Landry issues statement on undocumented man accused of kidnapping and raping Kenner girl

23-year-old Diego Rodriguez-Salvador turned himself in around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

NEW ORLEANS — Governor Jeff Landry issued a statement on the arrest of the undocumented man accused of kidnapping and raping a Kenner girl earlier this week.

“This man should never have been in Louisiana, but unfortunately, this story is nothing new," Landry said. "Due to Kamala Harris’ open border policies, the crime problems in the city of Kenner and across our country have been linked to more and more illegal immigrants and gangs. Enough is enough.”

23-year-old Diego Rodriguez-Salvador turned himself in around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.  According to Kenner PD, Diego has an undocumented status in the United States.

Lt. Mark McCormick said Rodriguez was at the teen victim's house in Kenner on Tuesday night and asked her to take a ride with him to the store. After agreeing to go with him, she questioned Rodriguez about why they weren't heading in the store's direction.

Police said next, Rodriguez pulled out a knife and drove the girl to his home in Kenner, and raped her.

Police say they got a complaint that 23-year-old Diego Rodriguez-Salvador kidnapped a 13-year-old female from the Veterans Heights subdivision Tuesday night.
