JEFFERSON PARISH, La. -- A former Crescent City Connection officer plead guilty to negligent injury Wednesday after his wife testified that he accidentally shot her during an argument.

David Kramer, Jr., has since left the Louisiana Department of Public Safety’s Crescent City Connection police unit after the Oct. 24, 2015, incident.

According to the parish district attorney, Kramer's wife testified that she and her husband were arguing over a photo found on his cell phone that night. She said she asked her husband to sleep elsewhere that night. When Kramer was getting his personal gun from him closet and packing, Kramer's wife testified she tried to stop him from taking the gun. That's when she said the firearm went off, going through her arm and hitting her in the side of the head.

"I don’t know if I did something to cause that, when I went to reach for it,” she told Judge Glenn Ansardi of the pistol.

When she was further questioned by the court, the DA said the woman described it as an accident. She also added that she is not afraid of her husband and wants to reconcile, said the DA.

At the wife's request, a protective order keeping them apart was dissolved. The judge also released Kramer from house arrest.
