The Harvey Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 was called to the scene of a burning camelback house at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
When they arrived on the scene in the 2000 block of Estalote Avenue near the Harvey Canal, crews were informed all residents had safely evacuated the home.
Captain Michael McAuliffe said the two neighboring residences received heat damage from the original house fire during the course of the firefighting, and that three firefighters received minor injuries.
McAuliffe confirmed that firefighters were able to limit the damage to only what had occurred before crews arrived. Next door structures were in danger but only suffered heat damage.
"Considering how enraged and advanced the fire was, when we got here, they applied streams and kind of confined to the original house," explained Cpt. McAuliffe during a presser held on location as crews continued fighting the 3-alarm fire. "We're still, as you can see, trying to put hotspots out and that's going to be ongoing for a while to access the areas that our house is still burning."
Fire Company Chief Richard Parker Jr. originally confirmed the fire with WWL Louisiana shortly before 4 p.m.
There were no civilian injuries reported.
This is an ongoing story and will be updated once further information becomes available.
