AVONDALE, La. — A Waggaman man was killed in a fatal two-vehicle crash on the Westbank Expressway at Beechgrove Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.

The Louisiana State Police responded to the incident just before 2:30 p.m. when a 2007 Infiniti M35 driven by 36-year-old Lance Marshall ran a red traffic light and traveled directly in the path of a Honda CRV.

The impact caused Marshall's vehicle to exit the roadway and impact a concrete sign before catching fire in a ditch. State Police said Marshall was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not clear if seat belt restraints were used, but a preliminary investigation at the scene suggested a high rate of speed was a factor in the accident. A passenger in Marshall's vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Honda was properly restrained and not injured.

Impairment is unknown, standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
