Former Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts surprised his constituents by stepping down from his at-large post Monday.
Roberts is believed to be the focus of a federal investigation into financial dealings.
Tuesday he posted on Facebook about his decision, with no mention of any possible investigation. Here is the post.
Last week I took the day to spend with my little guy to ponder the future and what it may hold. I could not think of a better photo of this trail and not knowing what the future has around the corner for you.
The greatest honor in my life will always be serving the people of Jefferson Parish. Through many challenges as a team we dealt with them. The parish is full of great leaders. Some are new and some have a great amount of experience. I wish them nothing but the best in the years ahead. As we have said in the past they keep the trains running on time.
I want to thank my staff, my family, my friends, and most of all the public for being supportive during lifes many challenges. I survived a medical diagnosis in my 20's that years ago would have been a death sentence. I will survive the road that is ahead as well.
After 20 years, it is time for me to focus on my personal well being and that of my family. However, I hope never to lose contact with so many great people throughout the years that have made the toughest of moments easier to handle.
The sun will always shine again.
