JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A water boil advisory issued for the lower portion of Jefferson Parish was lifted Saturday morning, according to a message from Jefferson Parish officials.

"This is being lifted based on the analysis of the bacteriological samples collected within the distribution system on March 4, 2022," officials said. "Customers in the affected area may now use the water without boiling or disinfecting."

The advisory applied to residents of the Town of Jean Lafitte, Crown Point and Barataria on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish.

Here are the instructions from Jefferson Parish officials for future boil water advisories:

What should residents do?

All residents are urged not to drink the water without boiling or disinfecting it first. Boiled, disinfected or bottled water should be used for drinking, ice making, brushing teeth, washing dishes and in food preparation until further notice.

Boil the water for one full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a bottle or pouring it from one container to another.

OR

Disinfect the water by thoroughly mixing 1/8 teaspoon of unscented, liquid chlorine laundry bleach with one gallon of water and letting it stand for at least 30 minutes prior to consumption.

People with severely compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly may be at increased risk and should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.

This boil water advisory will remain in effect until rescinded by the Jefferson Parish Water Department or the Louisiana Department of Health.  Bacteriological samples from the distribution system will be collected and analyzed to assure the water meets potable water standards.

Please share this information with all other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).

For additional information about this advisory, please contact the Jefferson Parish Water Quality Laboratory at (504) 838-4300.
