'We all want peace' | Local community remembers, honors lives lost in Oct. 7 attack in Israel

Survivor Yoni Diller met with the Jewish community here in New Orleans to honor the hostages still in Gaza.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — On October 7th, Hamas fighters killed more than 1,200 people at an Israeli music festival. It was the deadliest massacre of the Jews since the Holocaust.

“Suddenly we see all of this invasion coming up bullets flying everywhere, rockets coming from Gaza, people being shot by Hamas terrorists,” October 7th survivor Yoni Diller said.

Yoni Diller was flying drones at the festival and narrowly escaped the attacks.

“I survived it by a miracle. We walked for over five hours,” Diller said.

Five of his friends didn’t make it out with him.

“One of them was kidnapped until a month ago. He was shot to death by Hamas terrorists,” Diller said.

On Sunday night, Yoni met with the Jewish community here in New Orleans to honor the hostages still in Gaza.

“We have holes in our hearts thinking about what’s happening in Israel,” Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans CEO Robert French said.

As they live through the tragedy, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans Robert French says his community finds strength through their faith.

“This is a very difficult time for us, but they will not deter our resolution to live life,” French said.

As the war between Israel and Gaza continues to intensify, Diller travels the world telling his story and hoping to do his part in bringing an end to the violence.

“We want, we all want peace. The Palestinian people want peace. We want peace. We don't want this war,” Diller said.
