Jefferson Parish opens shelter for residents in mobile homes during severe weather

Those who need shelter can go to Terrytown Playground at 641 Heritage Ave. The shelter opens at 9:30 p.m.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — Jefferson Parish will open a shelter to mobile home residents Thursday night, due to expected severe weather going into Friday morning. Residents can go to Terrytown Playground for sturdy shelter.

Officials said they opened up the playground after the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch around 8 p.m. Rounds of heavy rainstorms are expected.

"The National Weather Service advises that it is not safe to be in a mobile home during severe weather and all Jefferson Parish residents in trailers should seek an alternative shelter in a sturdy building with family or friends if possible."

Those who need shelter can go to Terrytown Playground at 641 Heritage Ave. The shelter opens at 9:30 p.m.

Please be advised that residents should bring their own food/water as the playground will only provide sturdy shelter during the storm; there will be no any other amenities available at this location.
