Natural gas leak under control in Metairie

They said a contractor was doing unrelated digging when the line was damaged. The leak was capped shortly after 6 p.m.

METAIRIE, La. — Atmos Energy crews were on the scene of what appeared to be a natural gas leak in Metairie, La., on Wednesday afternoon.

The leak was near Airline on Central Avenue. Construction work is happening and Atmos and JPFD were on the scene.

Atmos Energy said they are looking into the leak. They said a contractor was doing unrelated digging when the line was damaged.

The leak was capped shortly after 6 p.m.

Residents may still want to avoid the area until the situation is cleared. But if you're in the area and smell gas call 911.
