JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — Jefferson Parish officials celebrated the opening of a new Jefferson Parish Transit bus facility and new buses thanks to a $8.9 million grant from the US Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration.
Jefferson Parish Transit is the only agency in the State of Louisiana to receive Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive grant funding.
The funding was used to revitalize the East Bank Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility.
Construction began on November 1, 2022, and was completed on April 4, 2024. The project consisted of demolishing the existing Transit Administration building to construct a new two-story 15,000 square-foot building in Metairie.
The existing Jefferson Parish Transit maintenance building was completely refurbished with new interior painting, replacement of exterior overhead doors, and other interior renovations.
