KENNER, La. — Officials in Kenner are left scrambling to find a sanitation company to replace IV Waste after the garbage collector notified Kenner leaders that it will stop collecting garbage there beginning March 1, 2024, as The Times-Picayune reports.
IV Waste and the City of Kenner have been in tough negotiations over payments for the past year which led to lawsuits. Both sides are claiming they are owed millions of dollars by the other.
IV Waste owner Sidney Torres said it gave the city the City of Kenner a 93-day notice as a “professional courtesy” citing a contract clause allowing the company to terminate the agreement over lack of timely payments.
A Kenner spokesperson told Nola.com they are, "working on a plan to ensure garbage collection services are not interrupted."
Kenner is also contracted with Ramelli Janitorial Services for supplemental services such as recycling, however, it is unclear at this time if Kenner will rely on Ramelli to replace IV Waste for its twice-per-week trash collection for Kenner’s more than 22,000 homes and businesses.
