Resident recounts hearing I-10 shooting

JPSO says the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m.

METAIRIE, La. — A shooting on the interstate over the Easter weekend left people stuck in traffic. A resident who lives near I-10 says he was in his backyard when the shooting happened.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says a man was shot. Danny Wiggins lives in Metairie, on the other side of the wall which separates the interstate from his house.

Wiggins said, "Initially there was a pretty loud like a boom." He went on to say, "Then followed by a succession of maybe eight to 12 rapid pops."

JPSO says the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday near the parish line. JPSO confirmed the victim, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital and is stable.

The victim is from Baton Rouge, according to our partners at NOLA.com.

Deputies are working to find the suspect.

Wiggins said, "I could hear a lot of commotion... five to 10 minutes later, you could hear the ambulances."

He says he was in the yard when it happened, and at first, he didn't think it was a shooting.

"I thought it was a blowout. It was a rapid succession of pops afterward, and I thought it was a tire and someone pulling off the road with a blown-out tire," he said.

JPSO could not confirm how many bullet casings were found at the scene.

No arrests have been made in this case yet.
