INDEPENDENCE, La. — The fire chief for the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Department was admitted to the hospital after battling a large house fire on Saturday, according to the department.
Fire crews were sent to a home on Leonard Chappel Road. Photos showed the house engulfed in flames with heavy black smoke coming from the home.
"Our chief was sent to the ER and was just admitted. Another brother is having a hard time. This heat is serious," the department said in a Facebook post.
Firefighters described the blaze as a huge and hot fire.
The department asks that the community continue to keep their chief and other firefighters who are recovering in their prayers.
