NEW ORLEANS — In New Orleans, we don't hide crazy; we parade it down the street.
That is certainly the case in New Orleans' Marigny neighborhood on Mardi Gras morning.
"I'm bird of paradise," one man said. "We have our route. We start in the Bywater and go around on Canal Street. It's the magic of the place."
"It's kind of farcical," a woman dressed as David Bowe's Ziggy Stardust character said. "I'm floating in the most peculiar way."
What's peculiar anywhere else is par for the course in front of the R-Bar at Royal and Kerlerec Streets.
The costumes were creative as always in the city's most colorful neighborhood.
"If you're not dressed up, you stand out," said a man dressed as one of the Bee Gees. "That's one of the things that makes the Marigny."
"That's my favorite thing about the city; you can just let it all hang out, and do your thing, especially today," said a man dressed from head to toe in wine corks.
In the Marigny, you are the Mardi Gras parade and the parade is awesome.
"I think the costumes are on another level down here," a woman dressed as a circus ringmaster said. "It's kind of nice to walk in the parade, yourself, you know."
Mardi Gras' Most Colorful costumes
"I'm having a really wonderful time," a man dressed as a court jester said. "It's absolutely fantastic. Great Mardi Gras. Weather is fantastic. We love it.
The group costumes were also a hit.
We saw walking Coronas "Going Viral", a Mardi Gras Space Force and a few wayward city building inspectors.
