Hancock County releases list of streets inaccessible due to flooding

KILN, Miss — Following a first major wave of storms to sweep across Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Coast on Monday, Hancock County Emergency Management Agency released a list of streets that have been made impassable due to flooding.

The Hancock County EMA, which services Bay St. Louis, Waveland, Diamondhead and surrounding communities, began checking the roads at 9:15 p.m. due to the coastal flooding and excessive rainfall. At that time several areas were inaccessible due to water over the main access to roads to those areas.

The following is the areas that had street flooding:

Everest Street/Rainier Street – 4.97 MLLW with a SSE wind at 19.44 knots 

  • All roads in this area are inaccessible 

 Lagan Street – 4.95 MLLW with a SSE wind @ 17.88 knots 

  • All roads in this area are inaccessible 

Central Avenue – 4.91 MLLW with a SSE wind at 16.52 knots 

  • All roads in this area are inaccessible 

Avenue B (Eastside of Hwy 603) – 4.91 MLLW with an SSE wind at 16.52 knots

  • All roads in this area are inaccessible 

Chapman Road – 4.91 MLLW with an SSE wind at 17.88 knots 

  • All roads in this area are inaccessible.

Avenue B (Westside of Hwy 603) – 4.95 MLLW with an SSE wind at 16.52 knots 

  • All roads in this area are inaccessible.

Avenue B (Eastside of Hwy 603) – 4.91 MLLW with a SSE wind at 16.52 knots 

  • All roads in this area are inaccessible. 

Kiln-Waveland Cut-Off – 4.74 MLLW with a S wind at 14.38 knots (5 Streets) 

  • Ladoga Street: Major Water- Impassable 
  • Victoria Street: Major Water- Impassable 
  • Aral Street: Major Water- Impassable 
  • Byakal Street: Major Water- Impassable 
  • Nyassa Street: Major Water- Impassable 

Harbor Drive – 4.91 MLLW with an ESE wind at 17.88 knots (18 Streets) 

  • Spruce Street: Moderate Water Passable 
  • Fig Street: Moderate Water- Passable 
  • Apricot Street: Moderate Water- Passable 
  • Bayou Drive: Major Water- Passable 
  • Harrison Street: Major Water- Impassable

There is a Tornado Watch in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for parts of Louisiana and Mississippi.
