New garbage collector is coming to part of Jefferson Parish

Jefferson Parish officials say a short gap in recycling service is expected before contract takes effect next month.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A new company will handle trash and recycling pick up in one part of Jefferson Parish beginning in the New Year.

Beginning January 1, 2024, twice-a-week garbage collection in unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte will be provided by River Birch Renewable Energy LLC, which was awarded a 5-year contract by the Jefferson Parish Council.

River Birch takes over biweekly trash service in that area as the current waste contract with Waste Connections expires at the end of December. Rameli Waste will also be the new recycling service provider.

However, Jefferson Parish officials say a short gap in recycling service is expected before that contract takes effect next month.  Customers will not be charged until service resumes.
