NEW ORLEANS — Easter is coming up on Sunday and of course, New Orleans will ring in this special holiday with some parades and good fun.
Here are three of the major parades going through the French Quarter on Easter Sunday:
The Historic French Quarter Easter Parade:
The Historic French Quarter Easter Parade starts on Sunday at 9:45 a.m., at the Tableau restaurant at 616 St. Peter.
From there, the parade will then travel to St. Louis Cathedral for an 11 a.m. Mass. The parade features mule-drawn carriages and class cars throwing Easter goodies to onlookers.
After the mass, paraders enter a costume competition, where awards are given out for Easter bonnets and baskets.
French Quarter Easter Parade:
Next comes the French Quarter Easter Parade, which starts at 1 p.m. at the corner of St. Louis and Royal, in front of the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel.
The parade will then turn at Bourbon and follow Gov. Nicholls Street to Decatur, finishing back at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel.
This is the Easter Parade's 39th year rolling in New Orleans.
Gay Easter Parade:
Last but not least is the Gay Easter Parade. The parade rolls through the French Quarter, starting at Armstrong Park at the corner of North Rampart and St. Ann Streets before disbanding at the GrandPre on 834 N. Rampart St.
Gay Easter launched in 2000 to show off the vibrant LGBTQ+ community in New Orleans. Since then, through gowns and summer suits, parade organizers have raised over $300,000 for CrescentCare's Food For Friends, raising money to support people living with HIV/AIDS.
