A soldier based in Louisiana was arrested in a car with his wife's body in the trunk, their two toddlers in the car, and his girlfriend driving, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office said Monday.
Logan T. Kyle, 22, was turned over to Army investigators at Fort Polk; Sarah M. Parker, 24, of Lake Charles was arrested on charges of obstructing justice and failing to report a homicide; and the 1- and 2-year-old children were taken into state custody Saturday night, a sheriff's office news release said.
The body was Kyle's wife's and the car's driver was his girlfriend, sheriff's office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Monday.
Kyle, who has been in the Army for four years and stationed at Fort Polk for a couple of years, was in custody, base spokeswoman Kimberly Reischling said in an email to The Associated Press. She said she cannot release his wife's name until Tuesday because Army regulations require a 24-hour wait after notifying next of kin.
Myers said somebody who had been told about the body called the sheriff's office to say that a woman was driving around with a body in her trunk. Deputies stopped Parker's car about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Detectives learned that Kyle killed the woman at Fort Polk, and that Parker knew about the killing and was trying to help him hide and get rid of the body, the news release said.
Myers said bond has not been set for Parker, and she did not know whether Parker has an attorney.
