NEW ORLEANS — The NOPD is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that happened on I-10 westbound on the Highrise bridge that had the interstate closed during the busy hours of the morning commute.
DOTD reported that I-10 West was closed at Chef Menteur Highway and drivers had to take an alternate route. The Interstate reopened at about 6:30 a.m. but traffic was still slow to get moving again.
Initial information showed a male driver was ejected from his vehicle in the crash and was declared deceased on the scene.
"The adult male driver of a vehicle was heading westbound on Interstate 10 at the Highrise bridge when, for undetermined reasons, his vehicle contacted another vehicle. The driver then lost control of his vehicle, struck a guard rail, and was ejected from the vehicle," the NOPD said in a later report.
NOPD said the 911 call center received the call about the accident at about 4:02 a.m. and confirmed the incident at 4:15 a.m.
Few information is available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
