PEARL RIVER, La. — A fatal accident on I-10 had the eastbound lanes closed at the Louisiana/Mississippi state Line for several hours during the morning commute late Wednesday night.
The right lane was blocked on I-10 eastbound on the Pearl River bridge at the Louisiana/Mississippi state line as emergency crews worked to clear the crash scene from the road.
The crash happened at about 11:00 p.m. and caused major delays for early morning commuters as the interstate was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
Louisiana State Police believe a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Gary Clark Jr., 46, of Abita Springs was traveling westbound in the left lane of I-10 East.
At the same time, a 2014 Volvo 18-wheeler was eastbound in the left lane of Interstate 10 East. For reasons still under investigation, the Ram impacted the Volvo head-on.
Clark Jr. sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Volvo sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
