Families reunited as record travel is expected this Thanksgiving

Close to 30,000 flyers traveled through Louis Armstrong International Airport on Wednesday to meet up with loved ones

KENNER, La. — What Barbara Jones is most thankful for wears camo and flew into town Wednesday morning.

“I’m here to pick up my amazing son who’s in the army,” Barbara Jones said. “That’s my little boy.”

For the first time in years, Jones and her son Sean Lalonde will eat Thanksgiving dinner together.

“He’s been in Alaska for a while, so I’ll finally see him more often,” Jones said.

Lalonde is one of around 30,000 travelers who will make their way through Louis Armstrong International Airport each day this holiday weekend.

“I don’t get to see her or my family that often so it’s great to be home with my family,”  Lalonde said.

Video taken Wednesday morning shows packed security lines, with flyers waiting up to 45 minutes.

TSA Spokesperson Sari Koshetz says there are some things you can do to make sure you make it to your gate on time.

“We recommend leaving two hours ahead of time,” TSA Spokesperson Sari Koshetz said. “Have your ID ready to go and check your suitcase and make sure you don’t have anything that shouldn’t be in a checked bag.

Koshetz says a little bit of holiday cheer goes a long way.

“Our officers are there keeping you safe every day and making all these beautiful reunions possible,” Koshetz said.

Jones says this Thanksgiving will be one their family will remember forever.
