Algiers power outage leaves 3,000 in the dark; animal suspected

"An animal was found in the Gretna substation which could be a possible cause at this time," said Entergy.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans City Council Utilities Committee says an animal was the possible cause of a big power outage in Algiers Monday morning.

“Entergy is currently monitoring an outage affecting approximately 3,000 customers in Algiers. An animal was found in the Gretna substation which could be a possible cause at this time. We expect everyone to be restored by noon,” the committee said in a post on social media.

As of 11;45 a.m., the Entergy outage maps showed a little over 100 without power in Algiers (Orleans Parish) and more than 1,100 in Gretna and parts of Terrytown (Jefferson Parish).

It is unclear at this time when power will be restored but Entergy crews are on the scene working to bring the area back online.
