NEW ORLEANS — The construction of a Top Golf facility is causing controversy in the Lower Garden District. It’s part of a project that’s already faced some pushback. Tonight, neighbors had the chance to speak their minds.
At the town hall meeting, most were asking why the project is being built in a historic neighborhood.
Another issue addressed was a lack of transparency about the project.
Some community members said they felt like they weren’t properly informed. One of the biggest issues would be the rerouting of Melpomene Street. Overall, the Vice President of the Lower Garden District neighborhood association said this would be bad for his community.
"It would be like having a Top golf next to colonial Williamsburg,” Vice President of the Lower Garden District Matt Ryan, “It's just not good, it shouldn't happen."
The neighborhood association has plans to schedule a meeting with Councilmember Lesli Harris to further discuss the project.
