NEW ORLEANS — A lot of good boys and girls received toys this Christmas thanks to Congressman Troy Carter’s annual “Drive-Thru” Toy Giveaway.
It happened Saturday morning at the Alice Harte Charter School on Berkley Drive.
Cars filled with kids and families wrapped around the block as the congressman, dressed as Santa Claus, loaded bicycles, games, dolls, RC cars, and more into passing vehicles.
Carter says this is a way for families with little resources to still be able to get gifts for their children. The event was free and open to the public.
"We know in this ever-increasing commercialization of Christmas children want the biggest and the best at what they see on television. They want what their friends are having," Congressman Carter said.
"And sometimes mom and dad or grandma just can't afford it. So, we come together every year and provide these resources to help during this Christmas season to demonstrate love, cheer, and giving, and make sure that no kid wakes up on Christmas morning without a toy."
Carter says whatever toys remain after the event will go to children at the New Orleans Children's Hospital and various other community charities.
