Coast Guard suspends search for missing man 48 miles offshore near Grand Isle

The man went missing when he fell overboard when the boat he was on hit a rig.

GRAND ISLE, La. — The United States Coast Guard says they have suspended its search for the man missing 48 miles offshore of Grand Isle. 

They suspended the search around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The man went missing when he fell overboard when the boat he was on hit a rig.

Two other men remained on the boat as it began taking on water.

When the Coast Guard aircrew arrived, they searched for a man who had fallen off the boat before airlifting the two men from the boat. 

Both men were taken to the University Medical Center for their injuries. They were last reported to be conscious and responsive, according to the Coast Guard. 

The incident is under investigation.
