NEW ORLEANS — On Tuesday, Mayor LaToya Cantrell responded publicly to a federal indictment that accuses her of accepting gifts from a local inspection company as part of a sweeping fraud scheme.
That’s the topic of this week’s Commentary by WWL Louisiana political analyst and Gambit columnist Clancy DuBos.
The walls of justice seem to be closing in on Mayor LaToya Cantrell. She bragged on Tuesday that she took office hounded by accusations, and she’ll finish her tenure as mayor that way. But, she says, she also has “a track record of delivering results.”
Hmmm.
There’s no question about the accusations. Scandals have become as much a of her political brand as her infamous temper.
It’s the results part that seems like a stretch.
In fact, the most recent accusation, a federal indictment of a city contractor, accuses Cantrell, though not by name, of selling out public safety for football tickets, lunch, and an iPhone.
In the coming months, perhaps the feds will deliver their own brand of results.
