Clancy's Commentaries: Hurricane Francine 'could've been worse', recovery continues

If there’s a silver lining to Francine, it’s that she could’ve been much, much worse.

NEW ORLEANS — Most of us in southeast Louisiana feel we dodged a bullet in the wake of Hurricane Francine. But lots of folks in Lafourche, Terrebonne and the River Parishes weren’t so lucky. 

If there’s a silver lining to Francine, it’s that she could’ve been much, much worse. 

As expected, the storm weakened after making landfall, but it still caused many millions in damage. And it reminded us just how vulnerable we are.  

President Biden has declared a federal emergency, and many parishes already qualify for assistance. You don’t have to file an insurance claim to let your local parish know your home or business was damaged. But reporting that damage could mean the difference in getting disaster assistance in your area.
