Clancy's Commentary: Louisiana voters will decide the fate of an important, proposed amendment to the state constitution

By voting "yes,” we can dedicate offshore revenues from alternative energy production.

NEW ORLEANS — We’re all for rebuilding Louisiana’s vanishing coastline. The tough part is paying for it. Congress helped us in 2006 by agreeing, finally, to share offshore oil and gas royalties with Louisiana. That provided hundreds of millions to help us fight coastal erosion. We’ve also received millions from the BP Oil Spill settlement, but those dollars will soon dry up.

Amendment 1 is the only statewide proposition on the November 5th ballot. By voting “yes,” we can dedicate offshore revenues from alternative energy production, such as wind and solar, to coastal restoration just as we do with oil and gas production.

Not every choice is this easy. But voting for Amendment 1 is a no-brainer.
