Clancy's Commentary: Voters return to the polls this Saturday to consider four proposed constitutional amendments

Here’s my quick take on the four proposed constitutional amendments on Saturday’s ballot.

NEW ORLEANS — I know it’s the Holiday Season, but the political season isn’t over yet. Here’s my quick take on the four proposed constitutional amendments on Saturday’s ballot:

Amendment 1 adds political appointees to the state Judiciary Commission, which already does a good job of disciplining judges. Politicizing the commission will make things worse, not better.

Amendment 2 would give lawmakers 48 hours to review spending bills. They already have a rule requiring that, but they typically suspend it. We don’t need to change the constitution. Lawmakers need to follow their own rules.

Amendment 3 would allow lawmakers to add up to 6 days to their annual sessions if they need more time to review spending bills. This one makes sense.

Amendment 4 updates Louisiana’s laws on property tax sales to comply with recent Supreme Court decisions. It’s also a good idea.

Bottom line: I suggest voting, “No, no, yes, yes” on Saturday.
