Clancy's Commentary: Parade safety tips

It’s Carnival time, which means it’s time for my annual tips on parade safety.

NEW ORLEANS — We’re all hoping for good parade weather, but we can’t control that. What we can do is keep ourselves and our loved ones safe during Carnival.

So, let’s review some parade safety tips:

  • Keep ladders away from curbs.
  • Don’t try to “claim” public spaces. Mardi Gras is a public party, and neutral grounds are public property. Let’s keep it that way.
  • Bring only — but all — the essentials: your ID, some cash, one credit or debit card, and of course your phone.
  • Know where your kids are at all times. Write your phone number on little ones’ arms in case they get lost.
  • Let kids catch the best throws, and be nice to visitors.

Most of all, mask up and have fun. Happy Mardi Gras!
