Clancy's Commentary: Local schools earn national and international honors

In the past week, two local schools have earned national and international acclaim for their uniquely New Orleans music and arts programs.

NEW ORLEANS — Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage.” That’s especially true for two local high schools — St. Aug and NOCCA, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. Both deserve curtain calls for recently capturing national and international honors.

St. Aug’s Marching 100 band traveled to the shores of Normandy to join an international commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The band played several gigs a day and drew rave reviews from crowds across France’s northwestern coast.

Meanwhile, NOCCA recently received the designation of “Exemplary School” from the National Arts Schools Network. NOCCA graduates have left an indelible mark on American art, film, music, theater and other art forms.

Congratulations to both schools – and thanks for representing our city and state so well.
